QuickBooks Email Phishing Scam

November 16, 2017 by wpengine Leave a Comment

The Better Business Bureau is warning about a new email scam that targets QuickBooks users.

The scam works like this. The victim receives an email with a subject line something like “QuickBooks Support: Change Request”. The email claims to be a confirmation email from Intuit that your business has changed its name and contains a link that can be clicked to cancel the request. Unfortunately, if you click on the link, you are directed to a site that downloads malware to your device. The malware then allows others to capture personal information, including passwords, from the device.

As a general rule, if the email sounds even a little bit suspicious, do not click on any links in the email. Contact the company directly outside of the email if you are concerned. Use known phone numbers, emails or websites to contact the company.
